Developments for Julian
Over the past few months, Julian has taken some exciting new steps in his tennis journey. In June, he was invited to take part in a trial day with the AFT (Apeldoorn Tennis Federation).
What is the AFT instroom program?
The AFT organizes special training programs for talented young players who are just below the level of the national KNLTB intake training. Itβs a great stepping stone for kids who want more challenge and the opportunity to develop further. During the trial day, coaches look at technique, ball control, but also motivation and enjoyment of the game. More info of the ATF you can read here.
A tense selection process
After the trial day in June, the selection was announced at the end of July. Unfortunately, Julian just missed out on a place β although he was put first on the reserve list. That was of course a little disappointing, but also a great compliment that he was so close.
Then, at the end of August, some fantastic news arrived: due to a change in the group β as another player was promoted to the KNLTB intake program β Julian was offered a spot after all!
What does this mean for Julian?
This season, Julian will be training for 22 weeks on Saturdays in club-overarching sessions with other talented kids from the region. This means not only extra hours on court, but also learning from new coaches and competing with peers who share the same drive and passion.
For Julian, this is a huge opportunity: he can further sharpen his technique and match mindset, while above all enjoying the game alongside other motivated young players.
We are incredibly proud of Julian for earning this chance, and we look forward to seeing how he continues to grow in the months ahead.
